Ronnie Kasril flagrantly plays fast and loose with reality in his emotive tirade against Israel and its right to defend itself (Israel’s hubris masks its growing weakness, 3 November 2024).

His article is full of ahistorical assertions about “ethnic cleansing”. His claims of Israel’s “colonialist” nature and his assertion that it is occupying the region as a foreign power are patently false and if his logic was to be applied fairly, not a single country on the planet would have a right to exist.

Kasril makes some blatant errors, spreading dangerous misinformation. Six children aren’t dying every hour in Gaza. I could not find a reliable source for that fact. If this was the case, then the number of children dead since 7 October 2023 should be well over fifty thousand. Even the highly disputed number of 42,000 dead, a number thumb-sucked by the biased and unreliable Hamas-owned Ministry of Health, doesn’t go that far.

The mathematics doesn’t add up around the number of dead, and it is almost certain that it is an unreliable estimate meant to fuel propaganda. It also doesn’t separate combatants from non-combatants. But even then, if we are to take the confirmed 1195 people who died as a result of the Oct 7 attack, which Kasril seems to romanticise, more people died per a day than as a result of Israel’s operation in Gaza.

If Hamas was to consistently kill, as they had planned, and kept up the pace of Oct 7, over 472,000 people would have been killed in Israel so far. Israel is acting far more responsibly and ethically in comparison.

Further, Kasril is blatantly lying that the mass rapes on Oct 7 did not happen. Video footage, witness testimony, forensic evidence and Hamas’ own admission proves that mass, pre-orchestrated sexual violence did occur.

Kasril’s very premise is unfortunately draped in a fanatical and illogical hatred for Israel, and for this reason, his argument cannot be taken seriously – as he will go to any lengths to condemn the Jewish state for simply defending the rights of Jewish people to live.
